Achievements and Accomplishment
towards Burns Awareness by NABI Members

Dear members,

Please write to the Hony Secretary at / about the Accomplishments / Achievements /Awards / Honours received by you in curricular as well as extra-curricular field in recent past. We would be extremely happy to announce them through our website, and would also feel proud to publish them in NABI Newsletter as well. Please also submit a coloured picture for uploading and publication.

Let us put our hands together in applauding the achievements of the following NABI members in the past few years. We extend our heartiest congratulations to them for the accomplishments.


Awarded Dr. B. C. Roy National Award from Medical Council of India for the year 2006 in the category of Socio Medical Relief.
  • Winner of the half marathon in senior citizens category at Baroda.
  • Secured 7th position in senior category at Mumbai marathon.
  • Participated and completed Delhi Half-Marathon.

Dr.Ashok Gupta
Awarded Padamshri by the Hon’ble President of Republic of India, H.E. Smt.Pratibha Devisingh Patil. He is only the third Plastic Surgeon in the country to be awarded Padamshri (Dr.Mathangi Ramakrishnan, Chennai & Dr.J.L.Gupta, New Delhi have received this prestigious honour earlier).

Dr.Rajeev B.Ahuja
  • Elected as the Secretary General of Asia-Pacific Section of IPRAS.
  • Elected as the Founder President of Asia Pacific Burn Association.
  • Invited as Faculty at the National Conference of Plastic Surgery in Oman held from 6th – 7th Feb 2009.
  • Invited as ‘Panelist’ in Rhinoplasty Session at Rhodes island, Greece during ESPRAS Section of IPRAS Congress held from 22nd – 25th Sept 2009.
  • Invited as the Keynote speaker at the 10th Asia-Pacific Congress of IPRAS held at Tokyo from 8th -10th Oct 2009.

Dr.Subodh K.Singh
Documentary film ‘Smile Pinki’ won the Oscars this year. This film was based on the stupendous work being done in his hospital on cleft lip & palate patients, which brings smiles on the faces of thousands of such patients every year.

Padmashri Prof. K. Mathangi Ramakrishnan
Life time achievement award given by Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R.University on 5th September 2010 –The Teacher’s Day.

Awarded Brig.Dr.Rasamay Ganguly Memorial Oration 2010 in ASICON 2010.
Topic: “An adjunct in the treatment of major burns (An Overviewing 30 year’s experience).

  • Unanimously re-elected as Secretary of ISBI for 2nd Term at the 15th Meeting of the International Society for Burn Injuries.
  • Appointed as Trustee APSI at the 45th Annual Conference of Association of Plastic Surgeons of India, held at Goa from 25tth -29th October 2010.

Padmashri Dr.Ashok Gupta
H.E.Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Ward for volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services. Awarded Dr.Ramesh Nigam Memorial Oration 2010 in ASICON 2010. Topic: “Challenges in facial paralysis: Dynamic facial reanimation with cross face nerve craft and functioning muscle transfer:Twenty years follow up and results”.

Nominated as Regional Representative by ISBI for a period of 2 years.
Dr.Narendra Pandya
Bestowed with a ‘Life-time Achievement Award’ and ‘A Pioneer in Cosmetic Surgery in India’ given at the Annual Conference of Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons

Dr.Rajeev B.Ahuja
  • Conferred with Honorary Life Membership of Pan African Burn Society at their Biennial Congress held in Cape Town in Feb 2011.
  • Elected as Executive Trustee of APSI at the 46th Annual Conference of Association of Plastic Surgeons of India, held at Coimbatore, Tamilnadu in September 2011.

Dr.Rajeev B.Ahuja
Dr. Rajeev B. Ahuja, Head, Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery, Lok Nayak Hospital and associated Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi has been elected unanimously as the ‘President Elect’ of the International Society for Burn Injuries (ISBI), at the 16th Congress of ISBI from 9 – 13th September 2012 at Edinburgh, UK. It is for the first time in the history of the World body that any person has been elected from a low or middle income country.

Dr. Lalit Makhija, Head Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery, PGIMER & Dr. RML Hospital,New Delhi has been unanimously elected as Prasident-Elect of Society for Wound Care & Recearch (SWCR).

  • Awarded Fellowship of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
  • Also acquired Post Graduate Degree in M. Phil (Hospital Administration & Health Care Management) and P G Degree in Human Rights.
Dr.Rajeev B.Ahuja
  • Invited as Guest of Honour at the 30th anniversary of Chinese Burn Association, 14thto 27thNov2013, Beijing.
  • Delivered a keynoteaddress at European Burn meeting, 29thto 31stAug 2013, Vienna.
Dr.Atul Shah
  • Completed LLM form The M S University of Baroda and would receive the Gold medal during convocation on 24thDec 13.

Dr.Prabhat Shrivastava
  • Unanimously elected as the Executive Committee Member of Society for Wound care and Research (SWCR) for 2013-15.
  • Unanimously elected as the Governing Council Member of Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (IAAPS) for 2013-15.

Dr.Ramakant Bembede
  • Delivered Dr.P.K.Bilwani Oration and receivedDr.P.K.Bilwani Appreciation Award for Burns Careat GUJSURGCON2013-Annual meeting of Gujarat Association of Surgeons at Rajkot on 28thSept 2013.

Dr.Jayant Dash
  • Awarded ISBI Travelling Fellowship for the year 2013. Successfully completed one month of training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK under the guidance of Mr. Naiem Moiemen.

  • Selected for the Kilner Essay award of APSI for 2013.

Prof.Mathangi Ramakrishnan
  • Awarded the highest award in Tamil Nadu “Avvaiyar Award for the year 2014” by Chief Minister Ms Jayalalithaa for her work in Burns in June 2014 at Chennai. The award, being given away since 2012, carries a cash component of Rs. 1 lakh, a gold medal weighing eight gm, a citation and a shawl.

Director Prof Dr. Karoon Agrawal
  • Elected as "Vice President" of Association of Plastic Surgeons of India during APSICON2014 at Chandigarh.

Dr.Rajeev Ahuja
  • Took over as President, International Society for Burn Injuries (ISBI) at the Biennial Congress of ISBI held at Sydney, Australia from 12th -16th Oct 2014.
  • Taken on Editorial board for Journal ‘Plastic Surgery’ formerly known as “Canadian Journal of Plastic Surgery”, and also on the “Journal of Burns and Trauma”.
  • Selected by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi as a recipient of ‘Eminent NBE Alumnus Award’ for the year 2014 in recognition of his excellence in teaching and training. The award shall be presented in a ceremony scheduled to be held in the near future.

Dr.S.Raja Sabapathy
  • Elected as the Secretary General of the Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of Hand (APFSSH) at the congress in Kuala Lumpur in Oct 2014.
  • Delivered the eponymous lecture, Dr AC Boonzaier Lecture at the 45th Annual meeting of the South African Society for Surgery of the Hand. Cape Town, South Africa on 31st Aug, 2014.
  • Was Conferment of the Honorary Membership of the South African Society for Surgery of the Hand.
  • Delivered the Nepal Orthopaedic Association Oration for the year 2014.
  • Invited Guest faculty at the Chang Gung – Mayo Clinic Symposium in Reconstructive Surgery, Vietnam Society for Surgery of the Hand, British Society for Surgery of the Hand, British Association of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

  • ‘The Times of India’ has conferred upon Dr.K.N.Tiwary ‘The Times Bihar Healthcare Achiever Award 2014 for the Best Plastic Surgeon in Bihar’.

Dr.Jayant Kumar Dash

Prof Dr Karoon Agrawal

1. Elected as the President of Association of Plastic Surgeons of India 2016. Organising chairman of 51st Annual National Conference of Plastic Surgeons of India, APSICON2016, at New Delhi in November 2016.

2. Received "National Teacher Award-2015" in recognition of contribution as a medical teacher during 31st Dr S.Radhakrishnan Memorial National Teacher and Media Award ceremony 2015. Award was given away on the eve of Teachers' day by the National Media, Network, Film and TV award foundation, New Delhi at constitution club of India, New Delhi

1 Delivered All India Institute of Medical Sciences for their AIIMS Silver Jubilee Oration on their Annual Day Celebrations, Titled " Nation Building through reconstructive surgery"

2. Designated by the Royal College of Edinburgh as the Sushruta-Guha Professorship in Plastic Surgery and Wound Healing of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for the year 2016.

3. Award of the Honorary Membership of the South African Hand Society.

4. Key-note Speaker in the Annual Meeting of the British Limb Reconstructive Society to be held at Liverpool in March 2016.

Dr V Bhattacharya

Conferred the distinction of "Eminent Senior Surgical Teacher Award" of the UP Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India on 20th December 2015 in the Inaugural function, during the annual conference at Lucknow. The award was given by Dr.Suresh Vashist, President Elect of ASI.

Elected Vice President of SWCR (Society for Wound Care and Research) for the year 2015-2016

Hand Transplant Team at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi.

The Hand Transplant team at the Dept of plastic surgery, Amrita Hospital, Kochi was recognised as the “Surgical team of the year” by BMJ –South Asia. The award is given by the
British Medical Journal in recognition of excellence in South Asian healthcare
