Department of Plastic Surgery at Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati organized a one day CME on Burns under the aegis of NABI on 26th Nov 2011. This was the first time a National CME on Burns was organized in Assam. Speakers of National and International repute, Prof. Mathangi Ramakrisnan, Prof S.P. Bajaj, Prof. V. Jayaraman and Prof. V.K. Tiwari delivered lectures covering various aspect of Burn management. Besides, local faculties Prof. Seema Rekha Devi and Prof. B.K. Deka spoke on metabolic response and Nutrition in Burns and Basics of management of post Burn contractures for beginners. Dr. B.P. Sarma and Dr. Kabita Kalita covered epidemiology of Burns and inhalation injuries respectively. The meeting was largely attended (total 151 nos.) by Plastic Surgeons, Senior Residents, and General Surgeons from Medical College and also from the periphery (Civil hospitals and primary health centers) with the aim to generate interest from grass root level to tertiary care.

Besides, 12 nursing tutors from Nursing Colleges and 25 Nursing students also participated. The presentations and interactions were very informative and fruitful. The meeting was widely covered both in print and media and created awareness amongst the general public. Many requested more such CME and workshops as Burn is a huge problem and generally a neglected field. Prof. Mathangi Ramakrisnan highly appreciated the efforts and advised to continue such programs on a regular basis with local faculties in future.
