18th Annual Conference- NABICON 2010

The 18th Annual Conference of National Academy of Burns- India was held from 29th-31st January 2010 at JIPMER, Puducherry. The theme of the conference was "Holistic Approach to Burn Care." The Conference was organized by the Department of Plastic Surgery at newly constructed Auditorium in the campus. A one day CME for Nurses was also conducted at Super specialty Block Auditorium on 31st January. More than 150 plastic surgeons, 27 nurses, 223 post graduate students and 222 nursing students attended the meeting. Faculty (27 National & 8 foreign) comprised of who's who in Burn care from all over the country & overseas.

The Conference was inaugurated by the H.E. Dr. Iqbal Singh, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Dr. K.S.V.K Subba Rao, the Director of JIPMER presided over the function. All the Past Presidents of the NABI, the Visiting Faculty and Oration Speakers were honoured. Dr. Bhimandas Bilwani Oration was delivered by Dr. Mamta Shah from Manchester, UK. The Safdarjang Professorship talk was given by Dr. RB Ahuja on "Cost effective burn management modalities in the Developing World". The Phoolan Devi Life-time achievement Awardee address was delivered by Dr. Sheila Rohatgi on "Development of burns management in West Bengal". State of Art Lectures were deivered by Dr. Ronald Tompkin, President ISBI, USA, Dr. Mathangi Ramakrishnan, India, Dr. Chandini Pareira, Sri Lanka, Dr. PK Bilwani, India, Dr.Tom Potokar, UK, and Dr. Dinker Pai, Malaysia. The key note Lectures were given by Dr.Michael Peck, USA, Dr. Andrew Burd, HongKong and Dr. Ronald Tompkin, USA.

A symposium on "Improving the burn care in India" was conducted. The faculties were Dr.SP Bajaj, Dr.Sunil Keswani, Dr.Umesh Shah and Dr.Lalit Makhija. There were 6 posters, 35 free papers and 8 competitive free papers which covered the Burns prevention, management, rehabilitation and research. Fifteen operative video cds and dvds were also made available to the delegates. Four dedicated internet terminals were available for the delegates and the whole auditorium complex was made WI FI for the use of delegates without any extra charges.
