NABI WEBINARS

NABI started its online tutorials both for the professionals and public in October 2020 under the dynamic and thoughtful guidance of President, Dr Sanjeev Uppal. The sudden setback to entire human race on this globe due to COVID-19 pandemic was both shocking and terrifying for everyone. So, the concept behind starting the webinars was to continue the academic endeavor of NABI so that all the members feel connected to each other at both the national and international level. The layout of the academic plan was conceived by Dr Sanjeev Uppal and approved by its all EXCO members. A decision was made to conduct online sessions for both burn professionals and general public on alternate Sundays. The most unique feature of NABI Online Tutorials was that apart from sharing knowledge and experiences among the burn specialists, the web sessions were also conducted to reach out to the general masses and create awareness about the prevention and first aid management of various modalities of burn injuries. Two of the Executive members, Dr Veena Singh and Dr Raj Manas were given the responsibility as NABI Online Webinar coordinators.

Series 1 included topics relevant to acute burn care and the first webinar for burn specialists was held on 18th October 2020 and it has continued since then. There has been overwhelming response from the professionals towards the online tutorials which includes deliberations from one speaker among burn specialists and another speaker from allied specialties viz. Nephrologist, Pulmonologist, Intensivist, Pain specialist, Dietician, Physiotherapist, etc. To include the specialist opinion from related departments is a unique feature of Series 1 of NABI tutorials. The team has also complied with several requests from NABI members to provide the link of the webinar recordings for burn professionals so that they can watch during their leisure time and get benefited.

To reach the public and non-medical population, the burn tutorials for general awareness are being live streamed on social media (NABI Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/National-Academy-of-Burns-India-NABI-110306817531979) and message is conveyed in the form of Q&A between the Speakers and Moderators. There has been an extremely encouraging response towards the program conducted on social media for the public with approximately 2400 views and 23 shares in a week for first session on “Prevention of Kitchen burns” and approximately 600-900 views for other sessions.

Series 2 included topics related topost burn reconstructions of various deformities like PBC neck, axilla, elbow, hand, lower extremities, perineum. Other areas of burn reconstructions like management of facial scar, post burn alopecia, breast contracture and ear reconstruction. It also included deliberations on topics like regenerative technologies in burn reconstruction which dealt on the advancement in burn care and importance of nursing care in burn patients.

Series 3 focused on video demonstrations of various surgical procedures in burn care like release of PBC neck, eyelids, role of expanders, use of dermal regeneration template (DRT), negative pressure wound management (NPWT), management of compartment syndrome in burns. It also included a much informative presentation on medicolegal aspect of burns.
