20th Annual Conference of NABI- NABICON 2012

The 20th Annual Conference of National Academy of Burns- India was held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi from 3rd -5th February 2012. The theme of the conference was ‘Past, Present and Future of Burn Care’. The Conference was organized by the Department of Burns, Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, Safdarjung Hospital and VMMC, New Delhi. A one day CME for Nurses was conducted at the Auditorium of Safdarjung Hospital on 2nd February 2012 while a live operative workshop was conducted on 3rd February 2012. The meeting was attended by more than 250 delegates, nurses, post graduates and nursing students. Faculty (24 National and 8 foreign) comprised of who’s who in Burn care from all over the country & overseas. The scientific deliberations by this galaxy of stalwarts coupled with active audience participation made the sessions very interactive and informative.

The Conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest H.E. Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, Hon’ble former President of Republic of India on 3rd Feb 2012. Dr.Sudha Pillai, Member Secretary, Planning Commission, Govt. of India, and Maj Gen (Dr) J.K.Bansal, Member, National Disaster Management Authority, Govt. of India were the Guests of Honour. Dr.Jagdish Prasad, Director General Health Services, Govt. of India presided over the Inaugural ceremony. The inaugural ceremony was followed by a lively and colourful cultural programme conducted and performed by the students and staff of Safdarjung Hospital and VMMC.

Dr. Bhimandas Bilwani oration was delivered by Prof.C.P.Sawhney, Safdarjang-NABI Professorship talk was given by Dr.Pramod Kumar, and Lok Nayak Hospital visiting Professorship talk was delivered by Dr.Naiem Moiemen, UK. Dr. Rajeev B. Ahuja delivered the Mumbai NABICON Burns Research Award oration. Symposiums were organized on Fluid resuscitation of Burns and on Hand Burns on 3rd and 4th Feb 2012 respectively. Besides, there were many competitive free papers and a large number of posters which covered various aspects of burns management including prevention, management, rehabilitation and research. Business meetings of NABI were also held as scheduled. Dr.V.K.Tiwari, President NABI thanked one and all for coming in large numbers to make the Conference a success. All the participants were treated to a memorable meeting which I am sure shall be remembered for a long time as a landmark in the history of NABICON’s.
