Mid-Term CME of NABI, Solapur, 14th November 2010

A one day Mid-Term CME of NABI was organized by Dr.Sachin Jamma of Solapur Burn Care Center in collaboration with Solapur Surgical Society as a joint venture at IMA Hall on Sunday 14th November 2011. A report on the CME as submitted by Dr.Sachin Jamma is reproduced as under.

"Solapur Burn Care center felt really honored by the opportunity given by NABI to a small private setup at peripheral place like Solapur in Maharashtra. Total 75 delegates, mainly General Surgeons from Solapur & nearby districts attended this CME. The faculty invited included Dr.Mrs.Madhuri Gore, Dr.Sunil Keswani & Dr.Prabhat Shrivastava - Secretary of NABI. Inauguration was done at hands of the faculty Dr.Mrs.Madhuri Gore, Dr.Sunil Keswani & Dr.Prabhat Shrivastava by traditional way of lighting the lamp.

Session I was on basics of Burn management. Dr.Mrs.Madhuri Gore gave the audience "An overview of scenario in Burns in India". She also discussed basics of "First Aid". Dr.Prabhat Shrivastava enlightened the delegates on "Initial Management of Burns" after the victim is received at hospital casualty. He followed this up with another lecture on "Definitive Management of Burns". He clarified various misconceptions about the amount of fluid that needs to be infused, exact role of colloids, fluid creep phenomenon, proper use of antibiotics, tangential excision etc.

Session II was related to advances in burn management. Dr.Mrs.Madhuri Gore explained the "Complications in Burns". Dr.Sunil Keswani spoke about "Advances in Management of Burns" & about general & local treatment starting with Acticoat, Integra, Keratinocytes culture to cadaveric skin donation & Laserskin. Dr.Madhuri Gore also spoke about comprehensive rehabilitation of Burn victims as well.

In session III, Dr.Prabhat Shrivastava conducted a panel discussion on Burns management. Apart from the earlier speakers, Dr.Rahul Amble, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon from Solapur participated in it. Dr.Prabhat had a good collection of pointing questions pertaining to some controversial aspects of Burns management. Panelists & audience enjoyed answering it. Anaesthesiologists in audience also actively participated in this discussion.

Solapur Burn Care Center also conducted a public program. Along with the members of Maharashtra Anndhashhraddha Nirmulan Samiti (Superstition Eradication Committee), they had conducted a campaign in 80 schools for nearly 40,000 students to reduce use of fire crackers in Diwali. Parents were also asked to sign a letter promising spending less on fire crackers & utilizing this money in a better way. It was a very successful campaign.

A Painting competition for students of 8th to 10th Class was also held. The topics were 'Prevention of fire accidents' & 'First aid for burns'. 26 paintings were received. The winner was awarded with a Bicycle, second one with Wrist watch & third one with a school bag. Three consolation prizes were also given. The prizes were sponsored by Solapur Burn Care Center. Dr. Madhuri Gore enlightened the audience about preventive measures in Burns & first aid as well. It was very well appreciated by the audience & media.

It was a hugely successful CME considering the attendance, presentations & contents of presentations. Thanks to NABI & the three faculty".
